Robert R. Levins
Sam Gearhart has been
designing information systems
since 1981. Before joining Bob
Levins in TAG, he worked on
several systems for energy
companies including Louis
Dreyfus, Suburban Propane,
Chesapeake Utilities and Bay
State Gas. Today, Sam is
responsible for finding ways of
taking the data in operational
systems and presenting it to
management in ways that
uncover the hidden and clarify the
murky.
Sam E. Gearhart
Bob's journey in the petroleum industry
began in 1972, driving part time for an oil
company while attending college. After
graduation in 1974, he took a job with
Petroleum Data Corporation in Princeton,
NJ. Petrodata, as it was known, was the
dominant service bureau for the home
heat industry at the time Like most back
then, Bob began at the entry-level position
within data center operations, soon
afterwards moving to the outside world of
customer support, then account
executive in the field, field management and finally, National
Accounts Manager, while doubling as corporate pilot. He was very
fortunate to have been mentored by well-known pioneers of this
industry, responsible for many of the operational and accounting
disciplines still in use today. It was a great experience and
provided him with a solid foundation in fuel oil and propane,
delivery and service.
After seven years with Petrodata, in 1981, Bob was offered a
position in sales with STS Systems, headquartered in Montreal,
QC, Canada. His experience and knowledge continued to grow
but was introduced here to entirely new and interesting market
segments, such as wholesale, lubricants and convenience
stores. This required the development of a strong working
knowledge of other hardware and software products in support of
these segments as well.
In 1996, as technology continued to change the landscape,
Bob joined Structured Management Systems (SMS) in
Richmond, Virginia, as Vice-President of Sales. This experience
and target market took himself out of the northeast U.S., to all
areas of North America, as well as Australia, providing solutions
to very large, diversified companies. His appreciation for the
downstream business processes and how they relate to required
system functionality grew significantly, as he was introduced to a
world of new ideas and management styles. It was here that Bob
recognized the need for business intelligence and how lacking
good management reporting really was in this industry.
Bob formed Technology Assistance Group (TAG) in 2000, with a
mission to provide business process consulting and advanced
management reporting that would not simply regurgitate data, as
accounting system sometimes do, but provide timely, accurate
and organized information from which one could make informed
decisions on a daily basis. Today, TAG continues to work toward
the realization of this vision
